What we would like to see in vr format? Horror? Here They Lie And demos Seventh Resident Evil At your service. Adrenaline races with a view from the cabin? DriveClub vr Trying to cope with this task. Space? Eve: Valkyrie , It seems to close the topic in the near future. Porn? Well, here it is somehow ourselves.
And how is the situation with traveling to other planets? This is also one of the mandatory points of the program at least for virtual reality, because almost every player sits a small cosmonaut-research. Isn't that what an incredible excitement around was built around No Man’s Sky? See with your own eyes the landscapes of other worlds, watch the outlandish animals, like grandfather of the blackbirds, find traces of ancient civilizations … Yes, almost everyone suppresses this desire, sitting in a stuffy office, audience or class.
That is why almost at the very start of PS VR, two projects were published, dedicated to traveling by other planets. Well, or a half.
Robinson: The Journey
Robinson: The Journey from the Studio Crytek was one of the most anticipated VR projects, along with Batman: Arkham and already mentioned "Valkyrie". As you know, the graphics are Achilles of the heel of the helmets of virtual reality, but to whom it is not to the German visual masters to correct the situation? And the Crysis trilogy, and Ryse: Son of Rome They could raise questions from the gameplay or plot, but the picture in them bathed, if not all, then many flaws. Therefore, in the case of Robinson, gamers hoped to get from Crytek the most beautiful game for VR today. And they received it.
The name, of course, refers us to the famous novel by Daniel Defoe about the misadventures of Robinson Crusoe. The tie is approximately the same: the ship suffers a crash, and the main character finds himself in a uninhabited territory, where he tries to survive. Only instead of the sea there is a cosmos, instead of the island – a planet populated by dinosaurs, and instead of a traveler wise with life, a little boy named Robin. Well, the role of Friday divide the flying spherical robot HIGS (judging by the design and behavior, the distant relative of the ghost from Destiny And Whitley from Portal 2 ) and manual dinosaurus like (seriously, her name is Laika). The goal of the heroes is obvious – not to be eaten, broken or trampled and get out of the nameless planet.
Robinson: The Journey looks as good as it is technically possible in the current generation of VR devices. When you turn your head for the first time and look around the tropical forest, the very first view is immediately emerging in your memory "Avatar" James Cameron. It seems to be nothing original, the jungle like a jungle, but breathtaking. Perhaps a thrill in front of the primitive environment, like two drops of water similar to the earth, is laid in us by nature. The picture is almost completely clear and almost completely unceasy. Unfortunately, even Crytek is not yet able to get rid of this “almost”, but the results achieved are still impressive.
If before that you did not have the experience of the game in virtual reality, then we categorically do not recommend getting to know technology through Robinson. Why? Yes, because you have to walk in it. On the example of this extremely stupidly sounding phrase, it is very easy to explain why to talk about VR is an ungrateful and little use thing. Everything is felt in the helmet differently, especially moving in space.
Our brain, as it turns out in practice, is very easy to deceive. Even if you have never doubted that everything happens only on the screen inside the plastic helmet on your head, the vestibular apparatus categorically refuses to believe in this. And if we are talking about transport like a car, a tank, a starship, and at least a combat robot, then more or less normal, but as soon as you begin to move “on your two”, the earth immediately goes from under the feet-at least, In the first five minutes of the game. Perhaps that is why Robin walks at the speed of the eighty -year -old old woman and is completely unable to run – you never know, he will still begin to stir the player to stir. The sloping of the rope is slow – away from sin.
► You can scan local animals, almost like in No Man’s Sky, but in return you will only receive entries in the encyclopedia.
As for gameplay, everything is exactly as the developers promised: 60% of the world research and 40% of the solution of puzzles. And you will have to explore everything very carefully. There are no tips and signs at all, except that Higs can advise something, but for this we must listen to the fact that he is chatting there, flying near you.
However, the puzzles themselves are quite simple: to find where the wires lead, insert the generator, find the missing parts of the mechanisms. Sometimes you have to attract a husky, everywhere following you. In general, this little dinosaur in the easy can win the title of the most charming companion in the history of the video game. Yes, Elizabeth in BIOSHOCK: Space Win Casino Infinite beautiful and helps in battle, but she cannot compare with a large -eyed manual Tirex!
► sometimes you take off to heaven to redistribute energy between the generators. At such moments, it seems as if you are looking at a phenomenally worked out miniature.
If you evaluate Robinson: The Journey as a simple video game, then six to seven points-its ceiling. This is a good “walking simulator” with a pair of dynamic episodes and not particularly complex riddles. Another thing is that in VR it is felt in a completely different way. If you have already acquired a helmet from Sony , then Robinson is currently one of those few projects justifying the purchase.
The Martian Vr Experience
But with the "game" on the "Martian" Ridley Scott, the situation is different. Assess it as a simple video game or as a VR project-the result is still disappointing. In Steam and PS Store, almost one and a half thousand are asked for The Martian VR Experience, but in a good way the key to it should be attached free of charge with the film with the film.
The total duration of the game is half an hour, and a third of them are occupied by inserts from the films that are completely not adapted to the format. As for some Kat-scenes there, no one especially wanted to rack his head-all in the best traditions of the old good games from films. There is no plot as such – we are simply retold “Martian” from beginning to end, only some episodes are turned into short gameplay scenes.
There are seven of them. In each of them it is necessary to perform a sequence of actions. Again, not about riddles, but about fairly obvious tasks. For example, here is the crane, here are the batteries, here is the truck. What needs to be done? Right – load batteries. A five -year -old child will figure it out.
The novelty should give, apparently, manipulations with PS Move (or HTC Vive controllers), by the way, not involved in Robinson: The Journey. But in the process it turns out that Crytek made the right decision, leaving the management of the gamepad. What is happening with the hands of the poor brand Watn during movement causes genuine horror. They bend at unnatural corners, pass through objects, break up into components – in general, in all its glory show the imperfection of technology.
Everything regarding graphics is also very sad. For example, if you look at the spacesuit sleeve, then instead of a strip you will see something smeared, and instead of the surface of the red planet, brown porridge flaunts. And in general, the project makes the impression of a demo with the Oculus Rift version of DK1, and not a full -fledged game that came out after the mass launch of VR.
* * *
It is interesting how almost at the same time can go out on almost the same topic, but with such a different level of implementation that they seem to be games from different eras. One promotes the VR forward, squeezing out of the technology the maximum and successfully adapting the usual gameplay under it, the other remains at the level of the attraction that can impress only those who have not seen virtual reality in the eyes. It is hoped that the first to be only more over time.
